Neighborhood Watch neighbors helping neighbors
We have had a few break ins. We
do have strangers going thru our neighborhood looking for
opportunities to steal. We watch each others homes and call
911 when there is suspicious activity. We keep our animals
restrained so they do not hurt people walking the street. (like
me an old man) Get to know your neighbors so you can protect
each other. Exchange phone numbers. Keep by
phone. This could save your life. Keep a porch light
on at night, a good deterrent. Florescent lights are inexpensive
to operate. Lights and alarm triggered by sensors particularly
at sides and back of house or door are good. Surveillance
cameras are good. Police response time averages 10 minutes if they
are not busy somewhere else. Some of home owners are
armed but remember there are stiff consequences for
shooting at anyone even if they are stealing from you unless you are
in your home and they are threatening your life. Better to call
911 and neighbors and have a plan to snap fotos and follow them.
Lock your doors, windows and cars. Use dead bolt locks.
Keep 2 smoke detectors and CO2 detector active with up to date
batteries. Have a fire escape plan. Keep at least two up to
date fire extinguishers one in bedroom, one in kitchen. Most
fires can be easily put out in first few minutes. Know First
Aid. Do not use fire works near buildings. If you are going away
for a long time, have someone watch your house. Your
best insurance is good neighbors. Do what you have to, to stay
on good terms with all of your neighbors. Avoid petty
arguments. It is better to put up with minor irritation than
risk losing your property. If you live across from or next to
an elderly person please get together with neighbors to help protect
them and to check on them. If we help and watch out for each other we
are all safer and reduce risk of loss. Teach your children not
to approach dogs or to kiss, hug or take away a dog's food or toy.
Never leave a dog alone with a young child. We have had several
children killed by their own pets.
Discussions
are easier, faster, more convenient and timely held by email as that
fits everyone's schedule. This is better during heat, cold, bad
weather, during mosquito season and during flu outbreaks. Better for
those with children as no babysitter needed. This saves on gas and
time. Also restrooms in the parks are often locked. No cash outlay
needed if local restaurant is used as we must buy something to use
it.
Neighborhood Watch discussion opportunity meeting
(by prior email arrangement) is at the Fitz Rec Center at 9 Mile Rd 1 block
East of Ryan at the Logue traffic light. Let us know if you if you wish to hold
a discussion meeting so we can select a time and day. We can meet there any
weekday from 9AM -2pm. Day and time arranged by email. Evenings meetings are
possible at a local restaurant.
Discussions are

gas, best during bad weather, heat, cold and best of all fits
everyone's schedule.
Those who which to meet
in person can meet at Dannis Park located on Stephens just W of Mound
on 4th Sunday of
month at 1 PM at the shelter. But if the shelter is taken at a table
nearby. In Bad weather will go to a local restaurant. No
meeting November, December, Jan, Feb and March. Not everyone has to
come to all of these. If you see me walking (Old man with cane) feel
free to say Hi and inquire. I want to set up an emergency
meeting place on the street. If you would like to offer emergency
use only of a garage for a short meeting place please let us know.
Such an emergency could be power outage, flood, criminal behavior,
disaster with police overwhelmed etc.
